Billy McDevitt; Concord, CA; 7.0 Pro Winner

Billy McDevitt was simply magnificent in eliminations winning 7.0 Pro with runs averaging 7.022. It was McDevitt’s first trip back to the winner’s circle since the 2015 March Meet. McDevitt’s ride is the former Bob “Superman” Murphy rail now campaigned by Mark Borjon.

Sacramento Raceway’s 42^nd Annual Fox Hunt Night of Fire contested over the Fourth of July weekend offered a tasty holiday menu of All American race cars from seven second gassers and dragsters to nitro funny cars and jet dragsters. There was plenty of nitro burned over this two-day event with five funny cars, two fuel altereds, and two fuel dragsters in attendance. March Meet winner Team Craig Racing was the star of the nitro show recording the quickest run of the event with a 4.962 elapsed time (1000’) with their John Russell-tuned top fuel dragster. Rick Akers and John Weaver and “Dreamweaver Racing” showed up with a brand new silver ’79 Dodge Omni body on their nitro funny car, and took the runner up honors with a 5.063 time slip.

7.0 Pro saw 2015 March Meet winner Billy McDevitt win his first event for owner Mark Borjon and Borjon Racing. The 468 cid BBC dragster tuned by Jay Smith performed impeccably all weekend. McDevitt was near flawless in eliminations recording a 7.009/ 7.037/ 7.021 set of runs. The West Coast Pro Gas Association continued its sparkling run in 2016 at the Fox Hunt. WCPG members currently lead the points for A/G, B/G, and C/G in the NHRA’s Heritage Racing Series.  Roy Castagnetto, the B/G front-runner for the NHRA series, won his second WCPG event of the year at the Fox Hunt. Castagnetto’s journey to the winner’s circle was anything but an easy one. He had to outrun not only WCPG #3 and #4 in points, Cliff Boyles and Miguel Lomas, but the associations leader, Ken Saisi, as well. Mike Mossi doubled Castagnetto’s winning record by taking A/G for the fourth time in a row. Scott Morgan, the NHRA pacesetter in C/G, returned to Sacramento Raceway’s winner’s circle for his third win in the last four races. Jeff LaSalle and Dan Bagwell, closed out the gasser competition by winning D/G and E/G, respectively.

Sacramento Raceway also finished its 2016 Summit ET program by crowning winners in the four contested classes. Ed Bradell took the Motorcycle class with his ’05 ZX10R Kawasaki. Super Pro went to Greg Rudd, and the Pro title to Dave Shaffer. Wilton, CA’s David Rudd took the Sportsman class with his ’70 Nova. The Junior Dragsters were also racing at the Fox Hunt and the National Dragster Challenge 10-12 division was won by Carson Wells of Mather CA. Madi Hanser, runner up to Madison Leal in Junior Comp, went undefeated in the 13-17 division with her ’15 Half Scale racer.

Roy Castagnetto; Concord, CA; '65 Chevelle; B/G winner

It was a big weekend for Concord, CA drag racers at the Fox Hunt as Roy Castagnetto (in addition to McDevitt) won class titles. Castagnetto is the current leader for the NHRA’s Heritage Racing Series, as well as second in the West Coast Pro Gas chase.

 
Ed Bradell; Sacramento, CA; Ed won Sacramento Raceway's 2016 Summit ET Motorcycle class

Sacramento’s Ed Bradell is the new Sacramento Raceway Summit ET Series Motorcycle champion. Bradell sealed up the championship by winning the track’s last points race of the year at the Fox Hunt.
