As some would say, ‘It was another crazy day at the races’.  With the morning forecast calling for 80% chance of thunderstorms, it had everyone watching their radars and wondering if we were going to get a full day of racing in or not.  As fate would have it, not only did it turn out to be a sunny rain-free day, it was a record breaking day with some outstanding side by side, high RPM, gear jamming, wheels in the air runs from the ever popular Ozark Mountain Super Shifters, to high horsepower, long burnouts, 4 second runs from the Nostalgia Quick Series.

The Nostalgia Super Stock, Inc., and Midwest Nostalgia Gassers were on hand to take us back in time to the days of heads up racing just as it was in the ‘60’s.  New to the event this year were some Nostalgia Pro Stocks, recreating some of the sports’ biggest names from the past.  The 7.49 and quicker class had a great variety of cars with a lot of outstanding side by side runs.  The night kept getting better with a match race between Hall of Famer Preston Davis, in his blown Southern Pride front engine dragster, against Midwest standout Gayle Jenkins, with his blown Bad Habit front engine dragster.

For the finale of the evening, the one everyone was waiting for, Buddy Hull driving the Motry’s Drastic Plastic altered against John Lawson’s Runaway nostalgia funny car.  What a race it was, with the burnouts complete, nitro in the air, everybody on their feet, the light goes green with big header flames from both cars and side by side for the full 1/8 mile, it went down as the quickest side by side race at the track!
