Styrene Plastic Fantastics
by Ben de la Vega
Scale modeling hot rods and drag cars has always been a passion of mine since childhood. I would take my models and enter them in contests only to be blown away by what the Master Modelers were building. Sure, I had a ton of Honorable Mention ribbons a.k.a "also ran". Of course as I got older I got much better and ended up winning first place trophies and plaques and even got props in a lowrider magazine. It has been years since I've built anything and I am about to get back into the hobby. Recently I became a moderator in the Facebook Straightliners group and these guys have some talent. I told them that I've got a magazine and to send their builds to me, so our first Modeler is Donn Yost.
Donn is from Etna Pennsylvania and loves gasser models. (Don't we all?) His clean building techniques and immaculate attention to detail really jumps out at you. You can also get free building tips from him as he runs the Don Yost's Scale Model Car Techniques/Builds page on Facebook.
Now, Donn doesn't spend all of his time sitting around building his models, in fact, the Amateur Softball Association just named Mr. Yost the First Team All American Defensive Player for the Over 50 League, during the Senior Olympics National Softball Championships! Congratulations Donn!
If you would like to see your artwork featured in our magazine just send me your information along with pictures to firstname.lastname@example.org and put ATTN: NDW Models in the subject line.
