If This Asphalt Could Talk - Stories from Fremont Dragstrip Movie Review
by Ben de la Vega
This is the first volume of Mark "SkidMark" Johnson's documentary, chronicaling the people and history of the Fremont Dragstrip.
What I love about this documentary is the fact that Mark let's the racers and former track personell tell the story. We start off with Skip Govia straight from his machine shop and then go visit with Rick Santos over at S&S Automotive. My favorite interviews are with the last flag starter of the track, Eves Tall-Chief and Rich "Pure Hell" Guasco, who explaines Dale Emory's near drowning at the track!
While I am only naming a few of the people interviewed for this "dragumentary", there are many more in this 70 minute teaser. And I mean "teaser" in a good way! With all of the excellent drag racing footage, most of it in rather high quality for being shot in the mid 70's, with a large smattering of action packed 8mm
footage and some historic photos, this "If This Asphalt Could Talk" DVD is a must have.
On a side note. Before the release of the DVD, SkidMark Productions released a theatrical trailer onto You Tube with a ton of really cool old footage, with a lot that didn't make the first release. This tells me that the future releases in this series are going to be pretty damn awesome and I already want more!
