Drag Racers Reunion at South Mountain Raceway
by Alan Aug
South Mountain Raceway in Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania hosted the Drag Racers Reunion on July 12th . It was the first event I attended this year after a series of cancellations due to the current virus situation and I must say, it was good to be out among the cars and fine folk of the racing community. It was my first time attending an event at South Mountain and I must say, I liked this track. Track operator Mike Natoli assembled an impressive array of cars. MANDRA, Vintage Eliminator, Lyndwood chassis rails, a pair of Nostalgia funny cars, a pair of fuel altereds and cars from Bruce Larson’s impressive collection and the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing were on hand.
The weather was hot but bearable with some welcome cloud cover and cooling breeze. Unfortunately, Ma Nature decided to end the event a bit prematurely around 5PM with some showers. But up to that point, there was a lot of good racing and it was good to see familiar faces throughout the day. |
