- AlkyDigger Nostalgia Eliminator 3 -
Ten cars came to compete in the 5.50 Nostalgia Eliminator 3 category as defending series Champ Doug Morrison was looking for a strong performance in his title defense. Qualifying number one certainly isn't a bad way to start as Morrison's 5.522 at 119 took top honors. Gary Mitchell qualified second with a 5.523 at 123 with Donnie Walker, Keith Darrow and Josh Moseley rounding out the top five after two sessions.
Morrison marched past Dustin Bradford and Josh Moseley to meet local runner Ryan McDonnell in the final round. McDonnell had bested Keith Darrow and Robert Springstead en route to the final. The last two standing crept into the beams to decide a winner in NE 3 as McDonnell took the starting line advantage as the ambers dropped. Morrison did all he could, but despite going dead on 5.50 came up short to McDonnell's 5.55 at 115 mph as McDonnell scored his first career SHRA event win. Congratulations on a great win for McDonnell and strong performance from Morrison.
NE3 Winner Ryan McDonnell
- Nostalgia Super Stock -
David Ardoin kicked off the new year of SHRA Nostalgia Super Stock competition with a top qualifying effort in his 1968 Plymouth Barracuda. Ardoin met his match in round two competition against Vic Corlett's "Thunderstruck" 1967 Dodge Dart. Corlett would move to the finals to take on the winner between Doug Watkins and Damon Kuhn. Watkins cruised to the win with a 6.59 on a 6.41 dial while Kuhn fell off pace to a 7.24 on a 6.41 as Corlett and Watkins were headed to the money match.
In the final, Watkins took a slight starting line advantage and held the better package with a 6.48 at 91 mph on a 6.41 to defeat Corlett's 6.97 on a 6.73 at 98 mph. This marks two wins in a row for Watkins dating back to the SHRA Championship Finals last fall. Watkins and his 1967 Chevy Malibu will lead the points as the SHRA heads to North Star Dragway on Saturday, March 31st for it's next event.
