THE UNSUNG HEROES
By Joe Doward & Melissa D. Mounds
One of the best and most interesting things about working for Nostalgia Drag World is that we get to witness first hand all the awesome drag race events! Last summer we paid particular attention and noticed how hard the crew chiefs and crew members work between rounds preparing and readying their particular car to traverse the quarter mile on the next round of racing.
There are many different categories in Nostalgia Drag Racing and our assignment was to cover the Nostalgia Pro Stockers and shadow the teams from their arrival at the track to their departure. We did this for several events and came away with a new found respect and admiration for the men and women who work tirelessly to ensure that, you the fans get to see a great show!
So this article is devoted not to the sponsors or drivers but to the UNSUNG HEROES OF NOSTALGIA PRO STOCK DRAG RACING!
Jungle George Kubis and his “Billy the Kid” Hemi Arrow!
Danny Blankschein is well known in hot rod circles throughout the Midwest. He has worked his entire life in the automotive industry. Not only did he help his longtime friend “Jungle” build the “Billy the Kid” Arrow, but he is the only Crew Chief this car has ever had. His craftsmanship is at the top of the charts and is certainly a major part of this operation. Best thing noticed was that Danny will always lend a helping hand to other teams when called upon to do so.
