Jimmy Finley's "Snake Bite" Mustang
by Stephen Smith
Jimmy Finley is the owner and driver of the early production '65 Ford "Snake Bite" Mustang. Jimmy finished 2nd in the Southeast Gassers Association 2015 points. Jimmy says his need for speed started early, downhill wagon racing in his neighborhood at age seven. It must have made an impact on him and stirred his competitive nature as a kid.
Jimmy's first car was a 1965 3 speed Mustang. Like most teenagers driving Detroit muscle, it wasn't fast enough. Jimmy was trying to hold his own on the street and so he started turning wrenches on his first car to make it faster.
Jimmy would soon start racing motorcycles. In 1983 he won a track championship at Ware Shoals Dragway. He moved on from motorcycles and bought a 540c.i. 86' Buick Regal. He set it up for bracket racing at the local South Carolina dragstrips. Jimmy would also go on to run in Steele Alabama at the Alabama International Dragway for track finals.
As time passes by, priorities at home would take precedence over racing for 14 years. Jimmy built his farm and pond along with his shop. With his wife Lisa of 29 years and his three children, he worked to provide his family with a place to call home.
