From The Editor’s Desk
By Connell R. Miller, Editor-in-Chief
Believe it or not, we’re now well into the fourth year since Rob Huckstadt, Martin Libhart and I launched Vol. 1, Number 1 of Nostalgia Drag World into cyberspace. Judging by the comments we’ve received since then, through phone calls, emails, Facebook postings and “likes” as well as private messages and face-to-face remarks at events, I would say NDW has wormed its way into the hearts of drag racers all over the United States and in several foreign countries as THE preeminent magazine – print or online – focusing on the incredible Nostalgia movement.
Our intention is also to give our readers not only the latest in nostalgia racing news, but also to give them some history of the roots and early days of our great sport, when fans packed the stands on weekends to watch drag racing the way it used to be. We have to offer big and heartfelt thanks to founders and visionaries such as Steve “Hook” Gibbs and others for their role in creating events featuring nostalgia racing, car shows and cacklefests, as well as the old racers who were eager to join and spread the movement. We also applaud the younger folks who were excited by what was happening and have supported us over the last twenty-plus years.
We certainly owe a big debt of gratitude to you and so many more that have helped grow nostalgia racing and related events into what they have become today. Along the way, you are showing everyone not only “how it was,” but, according to a large consensus of gearheads, how it should still be!
In a few short weeks or even days, the 2016 racing season will be drawing to a close. We urge you to visit your local track and show your appreciation of their effort to bring good drag racing to your area. You can also do your part to help keep the sport alive by bringing someone who has never seen a drag race. Youngsters particularly should be encouraged to leave their air-conditioned bedrooms with flatscreens and video games to come with you, as those are the ones we are depending on to continue the interest in straight-line racing and the demographics are not supporting that hope!
NOTE TO POTENTIAL ADVERTISERS: Our readership demographics show that Nostalgia Drag World is a great, very cost effective means of promoting your product, track, race team or group, event, etc. For more information about our rates, please contact Rob Huckstadt at rob@nostalgiadragworld.
