NOSTALGIA DRAG WORLD

Rick Treworgy’s Muscle Car City
Punta Gorda, Florida
by Joe Secka
The muscle car era was an integral part of the foundation for the current Nostalgia drag racing interest. It’s not that the era no longer exists, but, if you were there “back in the day,” then you understand what I’m saying. Today, at the drag strip, the muscle cars are often called Nostalgia Super Stocks. And you can always count on a strong contingent to show up at cruises and car shows.
Nestled into the middle of Florida’s left coast is one of the nicest collections I have ever seen. Punta Gorda is about an hour and a half South of Tampa and easily accessible via the interstate system. This collection is housed in a former Wal-Mart building with 99,000 square feet of floor space.
Like most of us, Rick Treworgy was attracted to cars at a young age. As soon as he could afford it, he began collecting and currently has over 200 of them. The vast majority are GM muscle cars from the ‘60s. There are some vintage cars and trucks and I would be remiss in not mentioning the Tri-Fives and extensive Corvette collections too.
The place is spotless and you pretty much have free rein to walk around and check out the collection. I expect it will take any car nut a full day to get their fill of the displays which include gas pumps, neon signs and other interesting mobilia. If you get hungry, there is even a vintage style diner serving great omelets, burgers, sandwiches, old fashioned sodas and milk shakes.
Check it out when you’re in the area - I doubt you’ll be disappointed!
