Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals

I can’t think of a better way to spend a cold winter day in the Midwest than a trip to the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Rosemont, Illinois. With over 500 cars on display there was just about every engine combination you could imagine. Old, new, completely restored, original, all the way to the untouched barn finds (my favorite), to a collection of old bicycles that brought back a lot of memories.
Here are a couple of cars that were on display and the amazing stories behind them:
Ohio George Montgomery
Mr. Gasket Gasser 1969 Mach I Mustang with a twin turbo boss 429 engine with a
one-off hand built 1969 Mach 1 fiberglass body by the Ford Motor Company.
1969 Super Eliminator at US Nationals
1973 Super Eliminator at Gator Nationals
1974 Super Eliminator at Gator Nationals
1969, 1971 NHRA Best Engineered Awards
The car is original and un-restored condition as last raced at the 1974 Gator Nationals.
Best ET – 8.22 at 173.75 MPH
Class domination caused NHRA to eventually handicap the car with a .50 second index!
The car is now owned by Bob Perkins.

Bill Maverick Golden’s 1964 Dodge
Factory HEMI Lightweight
The winningest car in drag racing history, in 1964 Bill Maverick Golden won 35 out of 36 races.
Then Stanley Ward took over the driving duties and won 99 out of the 99 races from 1964 to 1967, for an amazing 134 out of 135 wins.
Best Super Stock time – 10.94 ET at 131 MPH
426 cubic inch race hemi engine 12.5:1 compression at 425 HP, 2 Holley carburetors mounted on a cross ram aluminum manifold
A727 push button torqueflite 3 speed automatic transmission
4:88 ratio 8 3/4 “ rear end with factory Super Stock springs.
Won an incredible 134 out of 135 races from 1964 through 1967
