Melanie Butler – Pin Up Model - My Time At Nostalgia Nationals
with Melanie Butler
At Shakespeare County Raceways yearly event Nostalgia Nationals, I was asked by Joe Bond to join the Nuthin Fancy Crew and become their promo girl. Some of you will have already seen my ongoing promotional work with Allard Dragster, but supporting my partner Joe meant taking it to the track! Modelling for a good few years, specialising in pin up and shooting regularly at car shows with Victory Wheelers car club, I was excited to be presented with this opportunity… but did I know what I had let myself in for!
Watching someone you care about, Racing is definitely a mixture of emotions, but excitement was the greatest!

From getting ready in the fire up road to standing on the start line, it is a very quiet atmosphere until the Nuthin Fancy fuel altered dragster is fired up! The roar of the engine travels right through you, with a sound like that you know something bad ass and spectacular is about to happen!
Watching Joe perform his burn out really builds up the hype of the crowd and then it goes an eerie silence! Pre stage, stage and then go! He roars down the track at such a speed In a 200mph dragster, you really feel your heart beat fast with the thrill of excitement! Seeing Joe race a 6.91 & 6.82 on the Sunday blew my mind! After the applause from the crowd, the crew charge up to collect him at the top of the track! I am not going to lie I threw my arms around him I was so proud!
I would highly recommend coming to the track and giving drag racing a go, my family came on the Saturday including my nephew who now claims Joe is his hero and now wants to racer when he grows up!
The racing was fantastic but also I met a lot of lovely and creative people at the track. Whilst there, over the three days I also had two photoshoots, one is still kept quiet for now but the other was a shoot with photographer and good friend Andrew Meaton; who for years now has been looking to shoot with the plane at the entrance to Shakespeare County Raceway. With fantastic weather all weekend it was great for photoshoots and to get into some summery pin up clothing, here are a couple of shots with the plane.

Our next event will be Dragstalgia where I shall be promoting for Allard Dragster as well as Nuthin Fancy on Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th July at Santa Pod. I look forward to some more thrill chasing at the track and to also meet up with some of the lovely and creative people I met at Nostalgia Nationals.

I have a busy summer of modelling and promo ahead but in October myself and Joe Bond will be coming to Bakersfield for The Hot Rod Reunion. I look forward to shooting with out there with Tracy Price and his Wild Bunch Motorsports Thunderstruck fuel altered. I also am hoping to meet with Nostalgia Drag World magazine at the show.
Also I would like to add a massive thank you to Rob Huckstadt who has supported myself as a model and Joe Bond as the driver for Nuthin Fancy. It has been an honour to be asked to join the staff team at Nostalgia Drag World Magazine. Rob started supporting me when my work with Allard Dragster began and has become a good friend.
See you all at the track! Happy & safe racing friends!
