From The Editor’s Desk
by Connell R. Miller
Well, it’s been a fun season so far, race fans…hasn’t it? And it’s not over yet!
There have been some great events at tracks around the country, from way up n’awth in New England to the sunny climes of south Texas. To mention just a few, we had the World Fuel Altered Nationals at Iowa’s Eddyville Raceway Park, the Night of Fire at Route 66 Raceway, Tulsa’s Nitro Nationals, Mo-Kan Dragway’s gathering of the H.A.M.B clan, the California Hot Rod Reunion at Bakersfield, and the season-ending points races for the Outlaw Fuel Altered Association and the Southwest Heritage Racing Association at San Antonio Raceway and the Texas Motorplex, respectively.
Nostalgia Drag World has been tirelessly covering all these events throughout the year through the wonderful efforts of our staff and all our great contributing writers and photographers…a huge, well deserved thank you goes out to everyone involved! From the myriad of national and international events we’ve covered to the hundreds of photos in each issue and our interesting and informative stories and articles, those efforts have resulted in our magazine becoming the #1 go-to publication for all things regarding nostalgia racing.
A major issue we have repeatedly brought up in editorials and articles is the declining interest in our sport by the younger set that, it seems, would rather hibernate in front of the flatscreen with game controller in hand than tinker with a car or go to a drag race. With a few weeks left in the season and many tracks still open and scheduling events, why not make it a point to bring a member of the Millennial Generation with you to a race? You just might be responsible for creating what our sport really needs now - a bright, shiny new “gearhead!
Okay, folks, we’re still looking for more help! As we reported last month, on October 10, John Dearmore, long-time Top Fuel car owner, Nostalgia T/F crew chief, and president of DRE Racing suffered a devastating fire that completely destroyed his machine shop. John is a premier manufacturer of valve train components for the Chrysler-based hemi engines, Fords, and small and big block Chevrolets; his products are found on everything from Top Fuel to Pro Mod and Pro Stock to cackle cars.
The fire (see the photos) not only destroyed all of his files, fixtures, inspection equipment, micrometers, a 50-year collection of tools and parts, specialized tooling and machinery – CNC machines, lathes, etc. – but also the structure itself. A complete total loss! This operation was John and his wife’s sole source of income and, since unfortunately there was no insurance in place at the time, it is an absolute tragedy for the couple.
This is why we here at Nostalgia Drag World are calling for the drag racing community’s help. John is also an extremely capable chassis builder, as evidenced by his re-creation of the S.P.E.-chassied car he raced in the early 1970s. He (along with his stepson, Allen) was also about to expand the business to include a full-fledged chassis shop at his Alba, Texas shop. If you or anyone you might know has any machinery or tools, such as a lathe, milling machine, tube bender, T.I.G. welder, etc. that they would donate or sell at a good price or could help in any other possible way, so that John can get back up and running and carry out planned and contracted for chassis – both new and restorations – please contact him at (903) 474-3568 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

We have seen help come from the racers, fans of the sport and the manufacturers any number of times over the years. If you can help or spread the word to those who might be able to aid this good cause, please do so as soon as possible. We know John, his family and friends will appreciate it and it will leave you feeling good as well!
Okay! Now, let’s turn the page and see what Nostalgia Drag World has in store for you this month……..
