Ben's Quarter Mile Pro-Files
Sheldon Lofgreen, Driver
by Ben de la Vega
In a day where the sport of drag racing is dominated by "cookie cutter" cars, wrapped in printed decals, there are those times when you see a monster sitting in the pits that makes you wish you were the guy sitting between the frame rails which leads us to this months driver, Sheldon Lofgreen of Gilbert Arizona.
Sheldon has spent the last four years as a drag racer but has an extensive background drag racing boats and has also done a bit of asphalt racing over the past 14 years. The only down turn in Sheldon's racing career is the recent closing of his local drag strip, Speedworld in Whittman, AZ which left many racers high and dry.
Mr. Lofgreen currently drives Art Nolte's twin turbo 23T alcohol altered which is powered by a TFX92 hemi and utilizes a B&J drive with a Lenco and sits on a 125" chassis. You can usually see this team whenever the Western Fuel Altered Association visits a track near you!
When asked what got him hooked on drag racing Sheldon states, "I love speed and seeing something that you built go be successful on the track", which makes sense when considering the fact that he already has two consecutive CIFCA funny car second place points finishes.
When the heavy equipment diagnostic technician isn't driving the high winding turbo altered, you can usually find him tripping the lights fantastic in his low 10 second '71 Chevy Camaro and downing a huge scoop of the old rockey road ice cream.
Of course, the team is looking for their first WFAA points championship and this team consists of Art Nolte the owner, Will Napier, Ken Diaz and Phil Flower. They also have the backing of such businesses as Airaid, Scottsdale Automotive Specialists, Ken Diaz's Turbo Auto Diesel, K&J Autoparts (NAPA Franchise) and US Transmissions.
When you see these guys at the track, please take a video of their passes and put them on YouTube for us! VIEW PHOTOS ON NEXT PAGE
