BEN'S QUARTER MILE PRO-FILES
by Ben de la Vega
Driver - Mike Smith
Hey gang, this is a new monthly column where we profile an active nostalgia drag racer and the team that he or she drives for. The best thing about this column is that all of these "PRO-FILES" are pilot/owner submitted which gives "You" the chance to give your team some much needed exposure, no matter how big or small the team and especially if you have sponsors, as your "marketing partners" are the ones helping to pay for some of the bills in hopes of garnering some positive public exposure.
So, with this in mind, our first Pro-File goes to Mike Smith of Oak Harbor Washington, as submitted by the Killer Crower drag racing team owner Steve Zimmerman.
They currently compete in the NHRA's Hot Rod Heritage Series 7.0 Pro Class. As a matter of fact, they just won 7.0 Pro at this year's NHRR at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Ky.
Mike, out of Oak Harbor Washington, has been drag racing for the past 13 years and calls the Barona 1/8 Mile Drags in Lakeside California his home track. And does Mike love his toys as he has had sandbuggies, street rods, motorcycles, boats and ultralight planes. Mike has even cooked and crewed for friend Chuck Bayuk's NE1 dragster in 98 & 99.
Mike has also racked up some impressive wins such as the 2013 Holley National Hot Rod Reunion, 2010 Fontana Shootout, 2009 March Meet, 2003 California Hot Rod Reunion(NE 1), many runner ups and many Barona wins.
As far as the Killer Crower dragster goes it is a 2001 Hansen front engine dragster (ex Rick White Autopower top fuel chassis) with a 540 Rodeck by Gregg Scott Racing Engines, California Performance Transmissions
(Art Carr) powerglide.
The team is also sponsored by Crower Cams and Eaquipment Co., San Diego Gear and Axle, CNC, Autopower, Gregg Scott Racing Engines, California Performance Transmissions, Barona 1/8 Mile Drags.
Currently, Mike is a retired tile contractor who loves fishing the great northwest loves rocky road ice cream and dreams of winning a race that awards a real Wally and pursue a season championship.
The way Mike persues life, I think it is very possible!
