With the Southwest Heritage Racing Association presented by MalloryPrint.com at the halfway point in the 2014 racing season, the focus will become more on points standings in the season championships and the Nostalgia Eliminator class Shootout races that will take place on November 8th at the SHRA Championship Finals at the Texas Motorplex. These Shootouts will be a 'race within a race' when the Finals in Ennis take place.
Racers are awarded points throughout the season based on final qualifying position at each SHRA event. The top 8 point earners in each Nostalgia Eliminator class at the conclusion of the 7th event at North Star Dragway in Denton, TX will face off for $1,500 in cash!
The Top 8 will be paired in the first qualifying session at the Championship Finals event with lane choice going to the higher positioned car in points. Then the quickest two winners from that round (without going under the index) will advance to the final round which will take place in the second session of qualifying at the Finals. The runner up will walk off with $500 cash while the winner takes a cool $1,000 cash for their efforts! Be sure to follow along online at the SHRAracing.com website as racers battle for position in the standings. The next race to earn Shootout points is Saturday, July 19th, at San Antonio Raceway for the Texas Nostalgia Thunder event. Below are the current standings and brief recap in each of the Nostalgia Eliminator Shootouts.
Maintaining her lead in the Good Vibrations NE1 Shootout is Tera Wendland-Graves on the strength of three number one qualifying efforts in 2014 out of four completed events. Steve Matthews has moved into 3rd place after Ardmore and should move around Wes Breiten who stands in the #2 spot. With the recent sale of his NE1 race car, Breiten will drop in the standings. Chris Graves moved from 7th to a 3 way tie for the 4th position after the last race in Ardmore with his number one qualifying effort in Oklahoma. Jason O'Neill and Dale McKee share that #4 spot with Graves and will be gunning to move up. Number seven in points Clay Cunningham and number eight Ron Muncy will need good efforts to hold off Steve Dunkin, Gary Ballard, Brian Briggs, Rick Grindstaff, Robert Lee and others that are out of the top 8 in the standings and want in! Below is the complete Top 8 after the fourth of seven events in which points are earned this year as racers near the $1,500 payday in the Good Vibrations NE 1 Shootout.
